In 2015 the DFE reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those of with different faiths and beliefs.” The government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy, and these values have been reiterated by the Prime Minister.
Lumbertubs Primary wanted to bring British Values to life to ensure all young people, staff and parents understood what it means to them, how they can live British Values whilst in and out of school. I was invited in to deliver a whole school assembly to talk through my own journey as well as explain British Values and what they mean to young people.
The assembly involved young people exploring their own identity and getting involved to make British Values come to life. They engaged positively and were open to learning, exploring and celebrating British Values.
